Many makeup sponges are designed to be used damp, but the goal is damp rather than dripping wet. Proper preparation can make application more controlled.
Wet, Squeeze and Check
Run the sponge under clean water, allow it to absorb moisture, then squeeze it firmly. Continue until excess water is removed and the sponge feels soft and expanded.
Use Pressing Motions
Apply foundation or concealer in small amounts and gently press or bounce the sponge over the skin. Avoid dragging the sponge across the face.
Clean It Afterwards
Wash the sponge after use and leave it somewhere clean with good airflow so it can dry fully before storage.
